Poor Drew

Friday morning is the first time in I can't tell you how long that I set out to curl my hair with an actual curling iron. This is not something I do quite often nor even think about doing. As much as I enjoy having my hair down, it does not happen very often due to time. The kids love being a part of every thing I do and being around the curling iron isn't the safest task for two kids.

So Friday morning I fed the kids at the table and attempted to get some curling in while they ate. Drew let me know he was done. I let him down while I picked up the fallen pancake pieces on the floor. In less than 30 seconds I heard the loudest scream I have ever heard out of him. As soon as I heard him scream I knew instantly that he had grabbed the curling iron. To be quite honest I have no idea what I was thinking by leaving it sitting there. It just shows you what can happen in such a short time!

I have never felt so bad about anything in my entire life. To see your child in so much pain was the hardest thing I have ever had to experience. My first instinct was to put ice on his hand...but as I was praying, please God help him to heal, and walking to the kitchen I got an over whelming sense to call my friend Katie. Katie is a former EMT and I knew she would know what to do. Not even having any idea what time it was I called her and thank God she answered! She said no ice but to run his hand under room temperature water to help ease the pain and then asses. Katie just had her second baby two weeks ago and for me to call in such a panic early in the morning, have her stay calm for me, and tell me what to do as Drew is screaming and I am crying...and just have me hang up on her...Katie, I appreciate you!

Today is 4 days after and his hand is beginning to heal although it is going to take some time!

I am so thankful that it rarely bothers him and he is able to function as normal for the most part.

I guess this is one story that I will have to tell...my mom keeps reminding me that there will be plenty more. I knew while he was in my stomach that Drew was going to give me a run for my money and ever since the feet started walking, I have been running!

Oh how I identify with this post! Carter put his little hand right on a yard malibu light at a friend's house last week and got a nice burn. Boys are a whole different ballgame as far as risk and injuries! Since Carter is only 17 months old and has already gotten stitches, torn off half his fingernail with a bird bite and has about five bruises or cuts on his person at all times, I imagine I'll be quite familiar with the first aid kit during his childhood. I hope Drew is feeling better and the sting of the burn is all gone. On the bright side, they have a healthier fear now when we say something is HOT!

Oh this one gave me chills. Knowing your child is in pain is one of the worst feelings in the world. Every little boy needs a story and this is one for Drew. Like your mom said, I'm sure there will be more. I'll say a prayer for his little hand and your comfort.

Seeing your child hurt has got to be one of the hardest parts of being a parent! :(

I'm so glad that he is okay and that it doesn't seem to phase him too much!

I'll be praying that his hand heals quickly and that it a loooong time before something like this happens again!
