Scary Safe

What a couple of days we have had here in southern CA! For those of you not in southern CA, we are fine, not to worry...although the fires continue all around us.

It started for me on Sunday night as I was on the way to get some new recipes! My mom called asking me to go to her house in Irvine. My dad and her were in their house in Palm Springs and had heard the fires were near Irvine. My dad has worked from home for most of my life and every thing for his business was on one hard drive in their home so Dan and one of our neighbors went to my parents house and our neighbor's mom's house.

Although there were many many homes that the fire would have to go through, there is a path the leads to their house with tall tress all around...with the way the winds were going, not too crazy of a thought. They both ended up coming home from Palm Springs and the Irvine fire that seemed to be heading right to my friend Melissa's area (you can't always see details on the TV) then shifted and started heading towards us. What a crazy thing to see the fires creep over the hill and start heading down towards houses. We could see all this from the end of our street. Friends of ours had to evacuate and the fire continues to circle areas around us even today which is 2 days later.

When the fire got close to El Toro Rd today it came a little too close for comfort but fire fighters were right on it! What an amazing job they have done with the limited resources they have due to all the fires going on!

I just continue to pray for the people that have lost their homes, those that aren't sure of what has happened, and those that continue to be evacuated. Unfortunately my grandma and grandpa are in this situation. They were evacuated out of Fallbrook and are still unsure of what happened to the hill they live on. They have a beautiful home full of all our memories so we are hoping for the best and will hopefully find out soon! Please pray for them! I can't imagine what they are feeling!

I just went outside to the sound of helicopters and smoke filled air (that we are all experiencing here). The hills are still glowing. We have spent the last couple of days inside and it looks like a few bombs went off in our house. Drew is dying not being able to go outside! Kendra today even asked when she could go outside. I think tomorrow we are going to have to build a fort...that and do some extra long school!

We had dinner with my dad tonight while my mom was at bible study and couldn't believe what we saw on the way from our house to Irvine...it is amazing what this fire has done! They showed a satellite picture tonight from space on the news and basically from Santa Barbara to the Mexico border was all smoke. I saw 4 fire trucks pulled over today on Portola as I went to get some gas and you could see them all resting in their truck while they waited to be assigned to their next location and when I returned, they were gone. Please also pray that relief will be here soon for these weary fire fighters and that they will continue to remain safe while they protect all these areas in southern CA!
